Review: Fekkai | Glossing Haircare & Full Blown Volume

As stylist to the stars and having a long history in the hair business, Frederic Fekkai products have been on my radar for some time. Even back in my teenage years, daydreaming of beauty products and flipping through the latest InStyle magazine, the name was synonymous with luxurious glamorous hair.

Product: Brilliant Glossing Shampoo / Conditioner
Size: 236ml each
Price: $20 USD full size / $5 for mini
Would I (re)purchase: No.

In it's fresh green bottles, the Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Shampoo and Conditioner look perfectly ready for spring. While most glossing products tend to be heavier, this translucent shampoo produces a soft mild lather that left my hair comfortably clean but not stripped dry. The conditioner is a pale apple green and has the consistency of whipped mayonnaise (somehow food references seem to work great with beauty products). Quite a lightweight conditioner, this rinses out clean without a heavy silicone feel and is more suitable for those with normal to oily hair versus very dry hair.

Both products are scented with a fresh green floral fragrance that's pleasant to use but doesn't linger in the hair or cause an headache inducing after effects. While this duo did give my hair a pretty and soft sheen plus a bit of fullness there just wasn't anything particularly spectacular about it for me. It's a nice everyday product especially for normal, slightly dry or slightly oily hair.

Price: $20 USD
Would I (re)purchase: Likely, yes.

Now moving on to something from the Full Blown Volume range, this foaming conditioner is something truly unique. Packaged in an aerosol pump bottle, I casually dismissed this as a mousse until I realized it was in fact a conditioning product. With a light and airy foam consistency, this has a zingy citrus scent and is the perfect product to use near my roots. Once applied, it quickly disappears into my hair. Most conditioners are too heavy and tend to make my hair greasy so my usual routine only consists of applying product to the mid shaft to the ends. But paired with the Brilliant Glossing range, I now use this ultra lightweight foam near my roots and the Glossing conditioner on the ends so every bit of my hair gets some love.

Ingredients: Water/EAU, Propane, Butane, Cetrimonium Chloride, Cetearyl Alcohol, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Isobutane, Fragrance/Parfum, PVP, Quaternium-80, Propylene Glycol, Methylparaben, Behentrimonium Chloride, Propylparaben, Disodium EDTA, Tocopherol.

THE FINAL VERDICT
Overall the Brillant Glossing Duo from Fekkai is a likeable everyday shampoo and conditioner set if you don't have major dryness or damage control to look after. They are both lightly smoothing and will help to coax a soft shine to your tresses but the textures seem more suited to normal hair types instead of very dry or very oily. With that said, the star here is absolutely the Full Blown Volume Foam Conditioner, it's unlike anything I've used before and if you've never been able to find anything lightweight enough as a conditioner then this is a must try.
